Geoff moves for balance
“With consistent activity, I can maintain a sense of physical, mental, and spiritual balance.”
Geoff’s favorite place to move is the lake, in every season. Guided by wind and weather, he returns again and again for the feeling of freedom on the water, and the steady balance it gives him afterward.
Whether it is warm summer waves or frozen winter ice, Geoff feels most like himself on the lake.
All year round, he studies the conditions, checks wind strength and direction, and commits to long sessions that often last two to three hours. The lake is never exactly the same twice, and that is part of what draws him back. When everything lines up, the experience feels weightless. “The sense of flying over the water is truly unreal,” Geoff says. “I feel unbound by gravity,” he adds. “And it’s even better with waves!”
There is also something grounding in the repetition. Geoff describes the way his relationship with the lake deepens through consistency and attention. “I feel a connection with the environment around me,” he says. “There’s a progression that happens when you keep going, following the wind,” he says.
During a period when life became quieter for many people, Geoff noticed how lucky he was to have access to the water and the space to move. With fewer cars on the roads to the lake, he felt an even stronger sense of gratitude for the chance to spend long stretches outside, fully immersed in nature.
Geoff does not keep the joy to himself. He wants others to experience what he experiences, whether he teaches directly or simply shows what is possible by doing it consistently. “There’s the thrill of doing it, the feeling of accomplishment, and the feeling of well being after,” he says. “I want other people to share in that joy,” he says.
For Geoff, the lake is both escape and practice. It is where he challenges himself, listens to the environment, and returns to shore feeling steadier than when he arrived.
