Anne and Jerome move for family

Gigi gets us up and moving no matter the weather or how sluggish we feel.
— Anne, 39

Every morning, Anne and Jerome are nudged outside by their dog, Gigi. Their routine is simple, consistent, and rooted in care for each other and the natural world.

Anne and Jerome start most days the same way. At 6 a.m., their dog Gigi leads them outside, whether the weather is kind or not. Anne says the routine removes the need for debate. “We love being outside and exploring different trails,” she says, and adds that the dog makes it better. “Doing that with a dog makes it all the more fun,” she says.

The walks also help them feel anchored in community. “We meet all kinds of interesting folks out with their dogs,” Anne says. “It’s a great way to orient yourself in a new neighbourhood,” she says.

Anne has had dogs her whole life, but Jerome is new to it. Their rhythm changed when pregnancy complications limited Anne’s activity. “We had some complications in our pregnancy that limited my activity,” Anne says. “I had to stop walking the dog alone,” she says, and notes the shift in responsibility. “Since we’ve been pregnant, Jerome has taken over 100% of dog duty,” she says.

Their inspiration stays close to nature. “Watching animals move as one with nature is really inspiring,” Anne says. “It totally motivates not only movement and being outdoors but the protection of the planet,” she says.

Every morning, Gigi asks the same question: are we going? And Anne and Jerome answer with action - moving for family, for the outdoors, and for the life they’re building together.
