Nelly moves for friendship and fun

Moving my body is a nice change from just staying home and having screen time.
— Nelly, 6

Nelly’s movement journey started with two wheels and a little push from her grandma.

“When I first learned to ride my bike,” Nelly says, “my grandma held onto the back of my seat. As I was pedalling, my grandma let go without me knowing. Then I looked back and I noticed she had let go! This made me feel so proud of myself.”

A smiling young girl in a yellow dress rides a red kick scooter in a tunnel with a rainbow and purple-painted mural.

Her love for wheels didn’t stop there. “I also like to be on my scooter,” she says, “because, similar to a bike, it takes me to different places. I can go faster than people who walk, while also keeping my balance. Physical activity always relaxes me and makes me happier.”

Today, Nelly also dances regularly. She moves for grace and fun. "What I like the most about dancing," she says, "is that it is a fun and happy activity to the sound of music, where I can make friends and also move and stretch my body."

Because for her, movement isn’t just about getting from one place to another—it’s about joy, balance, and the friends you make along the way.

This is what movement looks like.
